Online Youth Exchange Re-Opens As ClimAcademy

For the past four years, Care About Climate has worked with partner organizations to run the Online Youth Exchange. The program brought young activists together to discuss climate change issues, strategies and solutions on live webinars, hosted by the participants. We have had hundreds of people participate in the program from over 40 countries. This has created opportunities for young people to collaborate internationally and learn from one another about how youth worldwide are acting on Climate.

In 2019, the Project Team decided to take the next step in their five year plan to create a structured curriculum that would hone in on the skill sets they determined were most essential to budding activists. This Earth Day 2020, the Online Youth Exchange will become ClimAcademy and will launch its new courses!

The courses will be offered through an online learning software, Moodle, and offer four main courses to prepare themselves to lead their communities in carbon-capturing, waste-diverting and capacity-building initiatives. Participants, called “Climate Envoys” will enter into the course best suited to their current skill level, and grow to learn useful tools for project management and climate empowerment. The four courses are:

  • Climate Science 101: Understanding the Baseline

  • The Economics of Climate Change

  • Strategies for Effective Engagement: Developing a Climate Action Project

  • Measuring Success

If participants complete the third course, they become eligible for the Climate Ambassador program, where they receive one-on-one support to implement their project with Care About Climate.

We are excited to take this program to the next level and give young people around the world the tools to make a difference in their communities, and to mitigate climate change. You can sign up for the program here:
