UNFCCC Taskforce
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
Previously known as the COP Task Force, the UNFCCC Task Force is a subsection of Care About Climate volunteers dedicated to the presence, work and outcomes of UNFCCC Conferences. The Task Force cares for delegates who attend major UN events, such as the Conference of the Parties (COPs), Subsidiary Bodie’s summit (SBs), Climate Weeks and more.
UNFCC
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the United Nations entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. The Convention has near universal membership (198 Parties) and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Agreement. The main aim of the Paris Agreement is to keep the global average temperature rise this century as close as possible to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The UNFCCC is also the parent treaty of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The ultimate objective of all three agreements under the UNFCCC is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system, in a time frame which allows ecosystems to adapt naturally and enables sustainable development.

The Taskforce
The Task Force is divided in two main lines of responsibilities
The Logistics: that ensures that all logistical needs are cared for including visa support, booking flights, and facilitate communication. Most importantly this taskforce contributes to fundraising for the Conferences, and research and create educational materials on cultural customs and safety.
The Conference Relations: this team organizes partnerships and media relations, supports CAC delegation needs and Conference Side Events and promotes and implements home-based conference update activities via social media. This team works with the COP/SBs from Home lead, who facilitates access to Conference spaces, activities and opportunities through virtual programs during the events.
COP is the supreme decision-making body of the Convention. All States that are Parties to the Convention are represented at the COP, at which they review the implementation of the Convention and any other legal instruments that the COP adopts and take decisions necessary to promote the effective implementation of the Convention, including institutional and administrative arrangements. COP28: this year’s Conference of the Parties will take place in Dubai from Thursday November 30th to Tuesday December 12th, 2023. Why Dubai? The host country of the COP normally rotates among the five United Nations regional groups (The African Group, the Asia-Pacific Group, the Eastern Europe Group, the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) and the Western European and Others Group (WEOG)).
