Shantanu - India
Shantanu calls the entire planet their home; however he is based in Mt. Abu, Rajasthan, India. He lives within the community of Brahma Kumaris, a socio-spiritual organization in Mt.Abu. Born and brought up in India, Shantanu has great humanitarian values, spirituality and eco-friendly traditions. Shantanu studied fashion design from the prestigious NIFT, Kolkata & was an exchange student to Modart International, Paris.
Shantanu’s personal journey with the environment started in 2015 when he became Vegan. Within a few months, he found himself engaged in climate activities. He was the rapporteur for the COY Paris and helped develop the Youth manifesto. Participated and facilitated as mentor in LCOYs and organized the 2019 LCOY India. He was a key member in the Youth Desertification Forum at the UNCCD COP 14, New Delhi, India. He was one out of 7 youth to be funded by UNFCCC for COP 25 in Madrid in 2019.
At present he is the Youth rep for Brahma Kumaris to UNEP MGCY and liaison for YOUNGO. His main area of work has been benevolent, holistic activism with a shift in consciousness, as he believes that consciousness and climate are deeply connected.
He is working with Care About Climate because he believe the best way to learn and inspire climate action is to share insights and being a mentor will allow him to do just that.
He believes that our planet is a provider that should be revered and not exploited. Climate justice can only be achieved with a shift in consciousness and a change of behaviors that brought us to our current reality.
María Rosa Servín - Paraguay
María Rosa Servín lives in Encarnación, Paraguay. She holds a Bachelor in Agri-environmental
Engineering from Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” (2010) and a Master’s in Management of Natural Resources and Territory from Universidad Nacional de Asunción (2014). She currently is working on her doctoral dissertation on Environmental Management from Universidad Nacional de Itapúa.
Ms. Servín is a researcher categorized in the National Researcher Incentive Program (PRONII) of the in the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) of Paraguay since 2018. She has developed research projects about Environmental Education, Ecosystem Services, Integrated Water Resources Management, and Sustainable Development, always including a Climate Change component. She also works in environmental consulting, assessment and education projects.
About climate action, she is convinced that the solution lies in people’s own hands, and learning from their perspectives, backgrounds and experiences can enrichen climate action and have a greater and broader positive impact. She considers that Care About Climate is a much-needed meeting point to exchange these experiences and achieve better results in climate action.
Elujulo Opeyemi - Nigeria
Elujulo Opeyemi (he/him) is a well- trained ecologist and educator from Nigeria with over 4 years of technical competence working to advance climate actions, biodiversity conservation, agroecology, community development, and youth mobilization for actions in Nigeria and beyond.
He represents various national and international organizations including Youth for Our Planet, as steering committee member and regional mobilizer for Africa, Nourish Scotland as a steering committee member, and represented his region as a Nature-based solutions Storyteller with Youth4Nature to COP25. He is a member of the African Youth in Forestry, Co-Founder and Director of climate change and sustainable development at World Ecological Concepts Ltd., and a Young Professional with the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Restoration.
Elujulo holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Control and Management, with a major in climate change and sustainable development. Driven by his academic and professional expertise, Elujulo focuses on promoting climate and nature actions in Nigeria and beyond, with a bias for nature- based solutions, and youth mobilization for actions. He is volunteering with CAC because it provides him a platform to transfer the knowledge and best practices he has acquired over the years to young actors towards activating them for leadership roles in their communities.
Qiyamud Din Ikram - Afghanistan
Qiyamud Din Ikram is a Master’s student at United Nations University and University of Bonn who believes in youth climate activism. His experience includes working as an Environmental Safeguards Expert for a World Bank Project and volunteering as a Country Coordinator in a healthcare project to serve the community.
Through his master studies, he has become aware of the interconnected nature of climate change and disaster risk reduction and how it affects every aspect of development. His academic background and professional career have given him the opportunity to learn more about advocacy, policy-making and campaign strategies and how he can utilize their voice for climate change justice.
As a Climate Ambassador Mentor, he is excited to learn more skills for how to tackle climate change through active citizenship and to empower individuals and groups alike to be climate ambassadors in their own individual ways.
His favorite quote is: “The greatest danger to the planet is the belief that someone else will save it”, and therefore he promote ways to combat climate change and environmental degradation at local, national and international level. He looks forward to being actively involved in the Care About Climate, using his relevant academic background and professional experience to enhance awareness of the environmental challenges we face now and in the future.
Prakriti Bhusal – Nepal
Prakriti Bhusal (she/her) is from Nepal. Her interest in climate change action stems from her close relationship with nature. She believes that “if there is any beauty that never fades, that’s the beauty of nature.” Her close relationship with nature inspired her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in forestry science. Her studies have created a pathway for her to learn more about the importance of taking action to protect nature and strategies on how to do so.
Her passion for nature has led her to work as a volunteer for the World Wildlife Fund, Nepalese Youth for Climate Action, and the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal - among others. One of her favorite volunteer opportunities was working as a facilitator for the World’s Largest Lesson (WLL) Bagmati River Basin Youth-lead Project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
She is working with Care About Climate as an Ambassador mentor with the aim of encouraging and motivating youth to participate and take action on climate issues for achieving sustainability goals. She is excited to work with the CAC team to connect with others who share her passion for a better world, to share experiences and knowledge, and work together to empower and unite youth for change.
