Climate Education
Why Climate Education?
“An absolutely central foundation for raising climate action is ensuring that everyone in the world knows both the dangers of climate change and the enormous opportunities that arise by adopting the solutions to it.”
- Nick Nuttall, UNFCCC
Climate education is essential to prevent warming above 1.5 degrees Celsius and to ensure a just transition towards a clean energy economy. Beyond preparing youth and young professionals for their futures in a changing climate, climate education provides the opportunity to contribute to one of the most fundamental goals of education - to develop mindful and engaged citizens. Climate education is unique in its ability to foster student’s agency and empower them to realize their full potential for change-making.
While some countries - Australia, Italy, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Korea & Denmark, to name a few - have already begun integrating Climate Change and Sustainability into their national curriculums, in the most vulnerable countries, it is not taught in many schools. ClimAcademy makes climate education accessible to more youth and young people who want to learn about the impacts and opportunities of Climate Action, in order to help their communities react to the climate crisis.
Our Impact
Climate education empowers people to recognize the connections between knowledge & social responsibility, in order to utilize their power to build a more sustainable and equitable future. The vast intersectionality of the climate crisis offers students the opportunity to further develop their critical analytical skills and synthesize information across a variety of fields including science, civics, and culture.
Climate education also offers vast possibilities for creativity and encourages students to think outside the box. Beyond its importance for the planet, climate education reveals to students the power which they hold to drive change in the face of global crisis. ClimAcademy’s education model focuses on skill development for leadership, justice and science-based actions. By combining these three focuses, our Envoys are prepared to go into their communities and teach others, implement projects and develop policy for a just transition towards a sustainable future.
